OPENING SONG
Glorious Day | Jason Ingram, Jonathan Smith, Kristian Stanfill & Sean Curran
I was buried beneath my shame

Who could carry that kind of weight

It was my tomb 'til I met you

I was breathing but not alive

All my failures I tried to hide

It was my tomb 'til I met you

('Cause when) You called my name (and)

I ran out of that grave

Out of the darkness into your glorious day

You called my name (and) I ran out of that grave

Out of the darkness into your glorious day

Now your mercy has saved my soul

Now your freedom is all that I know

The old made new Jesus when I met you

I needed rescue my sin was heavy

But chains break at the weight of your glory

I needed shelter I was an orphan

Now you call me a citizen of heaven

When I was broken you were my healing

Now your love is the air that I'm breathing

I have a future my eyes are open

SONG OF WORSHIP
What a Beautiful Name | Ben Fielding & Brooke Ligertwood
You were the Word at the beginning
One with God the Lord Most High
Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in you our Christ

What a beautiful name it is
What a beautiful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my king
What a beautiful name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a beautiful name it is
The name of Jesus

You didn't want heaven without us
So Jesus you brought heaven down
My sin was great your love was greater
What could separate us now

What a wonderful name it is
What a wonderful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my king
What a wonderful name it is
Nothing compares to this
What a wonderful name it is
The name of Jesus
What a wonderful name it is
The name of Jesus

Death could not hold you
The veil tore before you
You silence the boast of sin and grave
The heavens are roaring
The praise of your glory
For you are raised to life again

You have no rival
You have no equal
Now and forever God you reign
Yours is the kingdom
Yours is the glory
Yours is the name above all names

What a powerful name it is
What a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus Christ my king
What a powerful name it is
Nothing can stand against
What a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus

What a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus
What a powerful name it is
The name of Jesus

SONG OF WORSHIP
Alive (Mary Magdalene) | Bernie Herms & Nichole Nordeman
Who but you
Could breathe and leave a trail of galaxies
And dream of me
What kind of love
Is writing my story 'til the end
With mercy's pen
Only you

What kind of king
Would choose to wear a crown that bleeds and scars
To win my heart
What kind of love
Tells me I'm the reason he can't stay
Inside the grave
You is it you
Standing here before my eyes
Ev'ry part of my heart cries

Alive alive
Look what mercy's overcome
Death has lost and love has won
Alive alive
Hallelujah risen Lord
The only one I fall before
I am his because he is (alive oh yeah)

Who could speak
And send the demons back from where they came
With just one name
What other heart would let itself
Be broken ev'ry time 'til he healed mine
You only you
Could turn my darkness into dawn
Running right into your arms

Emmanuel the promised king
The baby who made angels sing
Son of man who walked with us
Healing breathing in our dust
The author of all history
The answer to all mysteries
The lamb of God who rolled away
The stone in front of ev'ry grave

Alive alive
Look what mercy's overcome
Death has lost and love has won
Alive yeah
I am his because he is alive yes
Alive

MORNING PRAYER

THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

SCRIPTURE
John 20:1-18 | New Revised Standard Version, updated edition
Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.” Then Peter and the other disciple set out and went toward the tomb. The two were running together, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent down to look in and saw the linen wrappings lying there, but he did not go in. Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb. He saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the cloth that had been on Jesus’s head, not lying with the linen wrappings but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and he saw and believed, for as yet they did not understand the scripture, that he must rise from the dead. 10 Then the disciples returned to their homes.

11 But Mary stood weeping outside the tomb. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb, 12 and she saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been lying, one at the head and the other at the feet. 13 They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?” She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.” 14 When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. 15 Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew, “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). 17 Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them that he had said these things to her.

These are the words of God for the people of God. Thanks be to God.

MESSAGE
Surprised by Joy! | Rev. Dr. Cathy Johns

AN EASTER AFFIRMATION OF FAITH
We believe in a God who astounds us! God created towering mountains, sparkling sandy beaches, lush green meadows, and dazzling wonders in the night sky. From the hummingbird to the whale, all Creation sings Your praise.

God surprises and astounds us in places where we expected God was absent.

We believe in Jesus, the Son of God, whose life, death, and resurrection transforms the world with the power of God’s love. His body, crucified and buried, was placed in a tomb. Three days later, He rose from the dead. Jesus, our Risen Savior, embraces us with new life saying, “Because I live, you also will live.”

We believe in the Holy Spirit who empowers us to be an Easter people, calling us to be witnesses to the Resurrection. The Spirit fills us with strength and sends us out to into the world to proclaim the good news: Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia! Alleluia! Amen!

CLOSING SONG
Forever (We Sing Hallelujah) | Brian Johnson, Christa Black Gifford, Gabriel Wilson, Jenn Johnson, Joel Taylor & Kari Jobe
The moon and stars they wept
The morning sun was dead
The savior of the world was fallen
His body on the cross
His blood poured out for us
The weight of every curse upon him

One final breath he gave
As heaven looked away
The son of God was laid in darkness
A battle in the grave
The war on death was waged
The power of hell forever broken

The ground began to shake
The stone was rolled away
His (perfect) (reckless) love could not be overcome
Now death where is your sting
Our resurrected king has rendered you defeated

Now forever he is glorified
Forever he is lifted high
And forever he is risen
He is alive and he is alive

Now forever he is glorified
Forever he is lifted high
And forever he is risen
He is alive and he is alive

We sing hallelujah we sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah the lamb has overcome

We sing hallelujah we sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah the lamb has overcome

We sing hallelujah we sing hallelujah
We sing hallelujah

And now death where is your sting
Our resurrected king has overcome
He's overcome oh
