Quilts: A Vision of Hope

Although many people in South Florida may have found new homes for their quilts, they give us a vision of God’s plan for the world.

Quilts are:

  • created with many sizes, shapes, and colors
  • formed together into a beautiful design or pattern
  • made by loving hands
  • put together by a community
  • pierced by needles
  • bound together with thread
  • shaped into something new and beautiful

Quilt making clubs still exist in some parts of the country. Quilters bring their scissors and thread to participate with others. Most quilters come because of the joy found in the community.

Old scraps of material become something new and spectacular. Once these pieces might have been headed for the trash can, but now the small pieces of cloth have become a work of art. Just as individual scraps are pierced by a needle and then held together by the thread, God pierces us through the power of the Holy Spirit, binding us together as the Body of Christ.

Quilts are a beautiful example of God’s plan! As individual members of the Body of Christ, each person has unique gifts to share. Each person’s SHAPE (Skills, Habits, Abilities, Personality, and Experience) is different and valuable. Like quilts, we are not divided, but one through Christ Jesus.

Join us this Sunday as Pastor Matt Till, a Christ Church United Methodist member who is serving as associate pastor at First United Methodist Church of Boca Raton, preaches. Pastor Till’s message, The One Who Makes us One, is based on Galatians 3:26-29.

Peace,
