Come and behold him, born the King of angels;

(refrain) O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him,
O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord.

Sing choirs of angels, sing in exultation;

LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE | Leighton & Merrit Stone
Draw near to God and God will draw near to you.

In James 4:8 the brother of Jesus reminds us what to do

And so tonight we draw together to draw together in this place

With pencils and an open heart, we celebrate when the past, present, and future come together in one space

No matter our age, tonight we are children and our menu comes with crayons

We breathe deep, set aside our worries, and all our other plans.

Draw in, draw up, draw together, and draw near

Tonight we draw in strength and faith after what has been a long year.

We draw together to light candles of hope, peace, joy, and love

And remember God is both with us and at the same time up above.

SCRIPTURE | Mary Allyn Campbell, Lyanna Castillo & Joey Barbera
Luke 2:1-20 | Common English Bible
In those days Caesar Augustus declared that everyone throughout the empire should be enrolled in the tax lists. Everyone went to their own cities to be enrolled. Since Joseph belonged to David’s house and family line, he went up from the city of Nazareth in Galilee to David’s city, called Bethlehem, in Judea. He went to be enrolled together with Mary, who was promised to him in marriage and who was pregnant. While they were there, the time came for Mary to have her baby. She gave birth to her firstborn child, a son, wrapped him snugly, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the guestroom.

Nearby shepherds were living in the fields, guarding their sheep at night. The Lord’s angel stood before them, the Lord’s glory shone around them, and they were terrified.

The angel said, “Don’t be afraid! Look! I bring good news to you—wonderful, joyous news for all people. Your savior is born today in David’s city. He is Christ the Lord. This is a sign for you: you will find a newborn baby wrapped snugly and lying in a manger.” Suddenly a great assembly of the heavenly forces was with the angel praising God. They said, “Glory to God in heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors.”

When the angels returned to heaven, the shepherds said to each other, “Let’s go right now to Bethlehem and see what’s happened. Let’s confirm what the Lord has revealed to us.” They went quickly and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in the manger. When they saw this, they reported what they had been told about this child. Everyone who heard it was amazed at what the shepherds told them. Mary committed these things to memory and considered them carefully. The shepherds returned home, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen. Everything happened just as they had been told.

MANGER - MARY & JOSEPH

SONG OF WORSHIP
O Little Town of Bethlehem | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 230 (verse 1,4)
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie;
above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by.
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;
the hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

O holy Child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel!

ANGELS

SONG OF WORSHIP
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 218 (verses 1,2)
It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old,
from angels bending near the earth, to touch their harps of gold:
“Peace on the earth, good will to men, from heaven’s all gracious King.”
The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled,
and still their heavenly music floats o’er all the weary world;
above its sad and lowly plains, they bend on hovering wing,
and ever o’er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing.

SHEPHERDS

SONG OF WORSHIP
The First Noel | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 245 (verses 1,2)
The first Noel the angel did say
was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay:
in fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
on a cold winter’s night that was so deep.

(refrain) Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel, born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star
shining in the east, beyond them far;
and to the earth it gave great light,
and so it continued both day and night.
(refrain)

BABY JESUS

SONG OF WORSHIP
Away in a Manger | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 217 (verses 1,2,3)
Away in a manger, no crib for a bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the sky looked down where he lay,
the little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay.

The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
but little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes;
I love thee, Lord Jesus, look down from the sky
and stay by my cradle till morning is nigh.

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay
close by me forever, and love me, I pray;
bless all the dear children in thy tender care,
and fit us for heaven to live with thee there.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. THE LIGHTING OF CANDLES | Led by Julia Chetri
candlelighters: Lucas Uchiyama,
Xander Campbell

God who draws us near,
Tonight we draw near to you no matter how far we have wandered.
Tonight we draw in your love for all no matter how much we forgot
Tonight we draw together in a space where all are welcome
Tonight we light candles, sing carols,
and remember we are all your children whom you created with love.
As we light candles tonight and sing together, draw us in, and create in us hearts of peace.

CAROL OF PEACE
Silent Night, Holy Night | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 239
Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright
round yon virgin mother and child. Holy infant, so tender and mild,
sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake at the sight;
glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing alleluia!
Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born.

Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light;
radiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

Please raise candles on final stanza.

Silent night, holy night, wondrous star, lend thy light;
with the angels let us sing, alleluia to our King;
Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born!

Please extinguish your candles before leaving your seat.
Please deposit plastic holders, with candles if you like, in the designated boxes as you leave.

BENEDICTION

CLOSING SONG
Joy to the World | The United Methodist Hymnal No. 246 (verses 1,4)
Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive her King;
let every heart prepare him room,
and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing,
and heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.

He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove
the glories of his righteousness,
and wonders of his love, and wonders of his love,
and wonders, wonders of his love.
